Firefighters have tackled a large open fire this afternoon.

Fire crews were called to the blaze near Town Road, Cliffe Woods, on the Hoo Peninsula at 4.11pm today (March 7).

At the height of the blaze, four fire engines were at the scene.

It was put out by 5.37pm.

People in the area were asked to close their windows and doors to avoid the large smoke plumes.
