Person dies at Gillingham railway station after being hit by train

A person has died after being hit by a train.

Emergency services were called to Gillingham railway station just before 2pm to reports of a casualty.

A spokesman from British Transport Police said they were "still in the process of responding to a casualty on the tracks".

Southeastern Railway tweeted: "Emergency services are dealing with an incident between Rochester and Rainham.

"As such trains are being disrupted and may be delayed, revised or cancelled at short notice. Please check your journey."

Sapphire Rose Louise said: "Gillingham High Street and the train station is blocked off completely, due to what appears to be at incident either at the station or the street surrounding it.

"Ambulances and police cars are everywhere, avoid if possible."

The lines reopened at around 5.20pm but Southeastern warned of disruption to services until 7pm and the tragic incident contributed to huge queues at London Victoria station.
