Multi-car pile-up on Wainscott Bypass A289

A multi-car pile-up is causing further delays on an already congested route this morning.

At least eight vehicles were caught up in the crash on the Wainscott Bypass A289 at around 7.40am.

One white Mercedes was left straddling two lanes and emergency services and recovery vehicles were working at the scene.

It appeared to passersby caught up in traffic trying to manoeuvre around the cars and debris that a car had hit a line of stationary vehicles from behind.

Kent Police spokesman James Walker said: "We were called to a four vehicle collision on the Wainscott Bypass at 7.48am.

"The South East Coast Ambulance Service were also called and, at present, no serious injuries have been reported however a live lane is reported to be partially blocked."

The ambulance service has been approached for comment.

It is not know whether the other vehicles which had come to a stop were trying to help or had also been hit.

Drivers were hit with more delays a short while later as they queued to access the usually congested Four Elms Roundabout.
