Medway Justice for Homeless will meet in Chatham to discuss Medway Council's draft homeless strategy

A campaign group will meet tonight to discuss the council’s plan to help combat homelessness.

The draft papers set out aims such as using early intervention to prevent homelessness and providing information to help people who are at risk of ending up on the streets.

The council will identify households at risk of becoming homeless and offer help and support.

Young people who are due to leave care will be supported to find a suitable place to live.

Medway Council has also pledged to work with developers to make sure 204 affordable homes are built each year, and with the prison service and hospitals to make sure people have support in place before their release.

To read the whole plan, search “homelessness” on Medway Council’s website. A consultation runs until Friday, April 21.

Medway Justice for Homeless, a campaign group which has been calling on the council to do more, is holding a meeting tonight at Nucleus Arts Centre, Chatham, at 7.30pm to discuss the plan.
