The site, just behind Chatham High Street, would consist of one block of 14 flats, six one-beds and eight two-beds, and another of 28 flats, 13 one-beds and 15 two-beds, along with six parking spaces and 68 cycle spaces.

The flats are split across five floors in one block and four in the other, but the plans say there is scope for some of the ground-floor units to be converted into retail or mixed use.

The documents provided say the designs have been adapted for the specific town centre location, both in terms of aesthetics as well as utility.

The plans say because of the public transport links nearby to the site there is less of a requirement for parking, and therefore only six spaces have been included.

The land for the site, currently unused, is 70 metres from Chatham High Street and plans say the buildings have been designed to not standout from the nearby area and will be constructed from similar materials.

The location falls within the Chatham Centre Design Code, which provides principles for design of new developments and regeneration within the area.

Nearby to the proposed development is the 135-flat proposals further along the High Street, and the current demolition of the former Tesco and GoOutdoors store for 319 flats.

The plans were submitted to Medway Council on April 14 and are currently being considered by the authority’s planning department.
