Police were called when a fight broke out between pupils at a secondary school.

Officers were sent to the Bishop of Rochester Academy, in Letchworth Avenue, Chatham, on Friday afternoon.

It is thought an argument broke out between two girls on the school grounds just before 2pm.

Medway Police said the incident was dealt with by school staff, but officers remained at the scene until 3pm to ensure all pupils left safely at the end of the day.

Principal Chris Sweetman (pictured left) said: "There was an incident between a small group of female pupils in the schoolyard this afternoon, which was immediately stopped by staff.

"We work closely with the police, as do many schools, and as a precaution, I asked them to be present outside of the school.

"We do not tolerate poor behaviour at the academy and all pupils involved will be dealt with appropriately."

Last November, Bishop of Rochester pupils staged a walk-out as they protested over plans to change the hours of the school day.

The school later backed down by reversing its decision to keep some pupils in the classroom until 5pm two days a week.
