An investigation has been launched into a barn blaze which took firefighters two hours to bring under control.

Around twenty firefighters were called to Chapter Farm in Watling Street, Strood just before 10pm last night (Saturday)

Flames engulfed the 65ft wooden building, being used to store gas cylinders.

Police are now working with Kent Fire and Rescue to investigate the blaze which is being treated as arson.

The latest incident follows a series of arson attacks in Strood and Rochester in August and September which targeted empty buildings.

Speaking about the latest fire, Strood watch manager Ian Simpson said: "Luckily there were no animals inside the barn and no-one was hurt.

"When we arrived the barn, which measured abut 65ft by 25ft, was burning from end to end. There were gas cylinders stored in there so we had to take precautions and stay well back, but they were fitted with safety valves so there were no explosions.

"Our biggest issue was getting more water supplies.

"We spent around two hours at the scene, putting out the flames and dampening down."
