Wetherspoon's The Golden Lion, Rochester High Street, to become hotel following £1.5 million expansion and refurbishment

Following a £1.5 million expansion, a busy pub is set to become Medway's newest hotel.

The Golden Lion pub in Rochester will be closed until the end of this month and when it reopens will also be offering hotel rooms alongside the usual food and drink.

The Wetherspoons venue has purchased the premises next door, previously occupied by the Thai Four Two restaurant which has moved to a new location on the other side of the High Street.

The extension will link up with the existing pub, meaning more space for customers and a bigger garden.

The area above the pub will be converted into nine ensuite bedrooms - three double rooms and six twin rooms. They will also be able to cater for families, with rooms starting at £39 per night.

It will be the chain's 43rd hotel in the country and rooms will come with complimentary tea, coffee and mineral water.

Guests will also have access to free wifi, a hair dryer, a television with freeview and ironing equipment.

The Golden Lion will reopen on Wednesday, October 28. During this time, the kitchen will be made bigger and the current pub premises will be redecorated.
