A person has died after being hit by a train near a railway bridge.
The incident happened near Otterham Quay Lane in Rainham this morning and affected the route between Faversham and Gillingham.
No Southeastern trains were running between the two stations earlier today, but power to the line has now been switched back on.
Police were called to the scene at about 6am.
A British Transport Police spokesperson said: “Officers were called at around 6am this morning to reports of a casualty on the tracks in the Rainham area.
“Officers responded with paramedics; however, sadly, a person was pronounced dead at the scene.
“The incident is not being treated as suspicious, and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
A Southeastern spokesperson wrote on X: “Power to the line has been restored between Faversham and Gillingham following a person being hit by a train earlier today.
“Services will soon be on the move, but trains will still be delayed and altered whilst we work to get trains back to normal working times.”
Otterham Quay Lane was shut in both directions between the railway bridge and Leigh Academy while emergency services were on the scene.
The school warned parents about longer journeys this morning due to the road closure.
It said: “We have been informed of an incident at the blue railway bridge this morning, which multiple emergency services have responded to.
“This means Otterham Quay Lane is currently closed from the school to Wakeley Road. Trains are also cancelled.
“Please leave additional time to get to school. It can still be accessed from the A2.”
Buses were also delayed, with Travelmasters saying on social media: “Due to the incident at Rainham train station, our 372 will be delayed but is in service so please wait at your stops.”
