Part of a busy main road in Gillingham has been shut due to a suspected water mains problem

Hempstead Valley Drive is currently closed in both directions for emergency repairs between Hempstead Road and Lombardy Close.

A huge hole has been fenced off near the mini-roundabout and long delays were reported earlier today.

A road closure incident was logged online earlier shortly after 2.30pm.

According to one.network the repair works have been authorised by Medway Council and are being undertaken by Southern Water.

The road is expected to remain closed until Saturday.
