One driver, who was caught in the traffic, said: “Rochester High Street and Victoria Street also had more traffic than usual. It seemed every route towards traffic was blocked."

According to online road management platform One Network delays in Star Hill, Rochester, are likely due to utility repair and maintenance works by Southern Water.

These repairs are expected to finish today.

Meanwhile, those heading to Blue Bell Hill, on the A229 Northbound, are warned to expect delays between Chatham Road on the slip, and Common Road, off the slip to Blue Bell Hill following a vehicle fire.

KCC Highways said one lane out of three is closed and repair works are being arranged due to damage to the road surface over the weekend.

Southern Water have been approached for comment.
