Bid to ease rush-hour traffic on Medway City Estate

Yellow lines have appeared on roadside kerbs on Medway City Estate in preparation for the crackdown on lorries loading and unloading during rush-hour.

The regulations, which come into force today, have been introduced by Medway Council in a bid to ease traffic congestion blighting companies and staff on the industrial park.

Urgent measures were sought following a consultation with 6,000 people employed on the estate who face daily misery in lengthy traffic jams.

The experimental traffic regulation order will be put in place in Anthonys Way for an 18-month trial period.

There are already parking restrictions on Anthonys Way preventing vehicles from parking on double yellow lines at any time from 7am to 9.30am and 3.30pm to 6.30pm on single yellow lines from Monday to Saturday.

Michael Edwards, the council’s head of integrated transport, said: “We are keen to do all we can to help improve journey times for those working on the estate.

"Although many of the roads on the estate are privately owned by the original developers, we do have control over Anthonys Way.”
