Plans to move St John Fisher RC Comprehensive recommended for approval

Councillors are to probe plans to relocate a secondary school.

St John Fisher RC Comprehensive - Medway's only Catholic secondary school - is split between two sites in Maidstone Road and Ordnance Street, Chatham.

The new plans are for it to move to one site on playing fields off City Way, Rochester.

The development, which would be overseen by Wates Construction Ltd, would have enough space to meet the needs of 900 pupils plus 285 sixth formers.

The school currently has around 880 pupils and the two sites in Chatham are considered run down.

Additionally, the lease on the Maidstone Road site is due to expire in 2023, which is also when developers hope the new-build will be opened.

Members of Medway Council's planning committee are due to consider the plans on Wednesday and planning officers have recommended them for approval.

The proposal includes sports pitches - including an all-weather pitch - as well as a chapel and drama studio.
