He got the backing of his school, Barnsole Primary to dye his hair pink for the month of October just like his hero Lyle Taylor, who plays for Charlton Athletic.

Last year, the head boy raised more than £600 for Cancer Research.

This year he is raising money for the cancer charity and Jack Jeffreys Superhero Trust, which was set up in memory of a four-year-old Charlton fan who died from neuroblastoma in 2018.

Pupils at the school joined Lewis for pink day last Wednesday,.

Lewis said: “This year I feel like I would like to go a bit better and actually raise more awareness by colouring my hair pink for the whole month like my favourite Charlton player Lyle Taylor who has inspired me to do this last year and again this year.

“Lyle has been made aware of my plans for this year and I will also emulate him by wearing pink boots to match my hair in games for my team, Strood United.”

Lewis, goalie for Strood United under 11s, will be hosting a charity football match and family fun day tomorrow (Sunday, October 27) starting at 10.30am, at Cedar Children’s Academy in Strood, where his side will be playing Medway United East under 11s.
