Hempstead pensioner walks away from 40 mile an hour crash near Bredhurst

This is the shocking moment a pensioner miraculously walked away with minor injuries after smashing into another car.

Emergency services attended the crash in Lidsing Road at the junction with Yelsted Lane near Bredhurst at around 3.30pm on Monday.

Bob Clarke, 72, said: "I was on my way from Hempstead to Maidstone, it was a pleasant journey, a little bit of drizzle and I was heading along a road that I knew well.

"It is a 60 mile per hour limit but I was only doing 40.

"I did see the white car coming from the right, and to be perfectly honest I thought he was going to stop, it didn't even occur to me that he wasn't.

"He just carried on and by the time I saw him pulling out it was too late."

Neither driver suffered any serious injuries but were both described as being walking wounded.

Mr Clarke, of Hempstead Road, continued: "The great thing about it was that he and I both walked away from it.

"My wrist is quite bruised and I have a little bit of bruising to my ribs but the worst thing was the damage to my pride as the first thing I did when I got out of the car was fall flat on my face."

Both vehicles involved have been written off.

Mr Clarke has expressed his concerns about the junction, after his neighbour's daughter had been involved in a similar incident at the spot only 10 days before.
