Highways engineers were called to the road on Thursday, June 19, following reports the carriageway had collapsed.

Investigation work revealed a broken sewer pipe, which was reported to Southern Water who have now taken over the site to carry out the repairs.

Since then it has been fenced off with cones prohibiting anyone from driving through the road.

On X, Medway Council said the “sinkhole” forced the closure and that “crews are on site to repair the road”.

Access remains available for residents.
