Roy Scott jailed for three years and eight months for burglary and driving offences in Strood and Gillingham

One black sock left at a crime scene helped police identify a burglar who targeted a home and two shops.

Burglar Roy Scott was an outstanding suspect in multiple crimes between August and December 2018.

He had stolen jewellery, cigarettes, cash, a mobile phone and a tablet computer in multiple incidents.

Police had identified him from where he left fingerprints at the scene.

The 36-year-old of no fixed address, targeted a supermarket in Cuxton Road, Strood during the early hours of October 27.

After grabbing cigarettes and dashing from the shop, he left a sock at the scene which provided a DNA profile for Scott.

It is thought he was wearing the sock as a glove.

During the raid, Scott was with another man. He has yet to be found

Police spotted Scott on December 22, driving a Kia Sedona in Pier Road, Gillingham.

They chased after him in a police car and Scott drove on the wrong side of Church Street, ignored red traffic lights in Railway Street and drove through a no entry sign onto pedestrianised Gillingham High Street.

Scott, pleaded guilty to one residential burglary, two commercial burglaries, dangerous driving and the attempted burglary of another commercial premises.

He was sentenced to three years and eight months and banned from driving for 45 months at Maidstone Crown Court on Monday, January 21.
