A suspect has been charged after a man was seen riding an electric motorbike in an “unsafe manner” through a town centre.
Police were alerted to the incident in Rochester High Street just before 1am on Sunday (June 8).
Patrols approached the man along with a member of the public, and the rider was detained.
A search led to the recovery of cannabis, and an e-motorcycle was also seized.
Later that day, Daniel Hayward, of Humber Crescent, Strood, was charged with driving without due care and attention, driving without a licence, and using a motor vehicle without insurance.
The 19-year-old was also charged with possession of a class B drug.
He was bailed to appear before Medway Magistrates’ Court tomorrow (July 11).
‘Antisocial behaviour relating to the public use of electric scooters and electric motorbikes is not just disruptive for other road users, it is also highly dangerous...’
In separate incidents, police also seized five e-scooters in Gillingham High Street on Saturday (June 7)
A further seven e-scooters were recovered in Chatham town centre yesterday (June 9).
Inspector Paul Diddams, from Medway’s community safety unit, said: “Anti-social behaviour relating to the public use of electric scooters and electric motorbikes is not just disruptive for other road users, it is also highly dangerous.
“It’s illegal to ride an e-scooter on a public road, cycle lane, or pavement, and, under current law, the only place that they can be used is on private land.
“Electric motorbikes are subject to the same legislation as other motor vehicles.
“We’re committed to keeping pedestrians and road users safe and will continue to take action, which may include seizing e-scooters and e-motorbikes, and reporting riders for any offences they may have committed.”
