Man due in court after taxi driver robbed at knifepoint in Maidstone Road, Chatham

A man is due to appear in court after a taxi driver was allegedly robbed at knifepoint.

The driver, who is in his 50s, reportedly had cash stolen in Chatham on Friday night, police said.

Officers have charged Matthew Lycett of Mercian Road, Hoo, near Rochester, with two offences.

It is alleged the taxi driver was threatened with a blade before cash was taken at about 11pm on Friday in the Maidstone Road area.

The 28-year-old was arrested yesterday and is due to appear at Medway Magistrates' Court this afternoon.

He has been charged with possessing a knife in a public place and robbery.
