The classes are aimed at key stage 2 pupils, between the ages of eight and 11, and introduces the language with simple phrases, songs and graphics.

Michael said: “Languages are living things so I am not trying to teach French as an academic subject, it’s more fun and conversational and has really got our pupils engaged and practising.

“I absolutely adored holidays in France as a child so it’s a joy for me to put together these short videos which the children have really responded to.

"I was teaching a weekly French lesson, and I think it’s vitally important for pupils to learn other modern global languages.

"We have multicultural schools so many of our pupils already speak their parents’ native languages but as we live in Europe it’s good for them to have an understanding of at least one language that is not English.”
