The youth suffered injuries which are described as "not life threatening".

British Transport Police are investigating the incident.

The bridge at the station was taped off due to the attack, with several officers spotted at the scene.

Rail firm Southeastern tweeted last night: "Because of the police dealing with an incident at Chatham station, the main ticket hall is currently closed. Please enter and exit the station via the side gates."

Trains still stopped at Chatham as normal.

One ambulance and a paramedic car attended the scene.

Ambulance service spokesman Rich Airey said: "The patient was assessed and treated following a reported assault before being taken to a London hospital."
