M2 London bound between junction 3 for Chatham and junction 2 for Rochester closed for emergency roadworks

Two out of four lanes on a busy motorway remain closed while repairs take place to an “infrastructure defect”.

The M2 London-bound between junction 3 (Chatham) and junction 2 (Rochester) has been closed due to a joint defect on the Medway Bridge.

Emergency roadworks have been in place since yesterday lunchtime.

As a result, the junction 2 westbound exit slip road is also closed at this stage.

Yesterday, Kent Highways said the closure was “likely to be in place until at least tomorrow”.

It said: “Expect delays in the area and allow extra time for your journey.”

National Highways confirmed specialist contractors are working to complete an immediate repair.
