Travellers set up homes on Snodhurst Bottom Pitch and Putt car park in Chatham

A group of travellers who set up homes on Luton Recreation Ground have moved to a car park nearby.

The group, thought to be about 10 caravans strong, entered the Snodhurst Bottom Pitch and Putt car park in Walderslade Road, Chatham, on Monday

They had travelled from the recreation ground in Capstone Road, where they had previously been staying and before that the group had pitched up their homes on a field in Friston Way Rochester, where they had been moved.

Medway Council owns all three sites the group have moved onto in the last couple of weeks and the authority has already started the legal process to get moved on from the Snodhurst Bottom site.

Perry Holmes, Medway Council’s chief legal officer, said: “We are aware that a group of travellers have set up an illegal encampment in Snodhurst Bottom, Chatham.

"We have visited the site and we will be following a civil legal process to move the group on.”

Kent Police have been contacted for a comment.
