Medway Council has confirmed the works will take place outside peak hours in an attempt to minimise the impact to residents and workers.

The tunnel will shut in both directions from 8pm on March 21 reopening at 5.30am the following morning for road resurfacing works.

Works will continue Monday to Friday nights inclusive from March 21 and then resume for another five nights on March 28.

Other roads around the tunnel will also be closed to allow for further works on Berwick Way in both directions, Upnor roundabout at the junction of Berwick Way and Anthonys Way and the northern part of Anthonys Way by the roundabout will also close.

During the closures, the access to the Medway City Estate will be via Commissioners Road with a fully signed diversion in place.

It is part of the wider scheme to build a new sliproad off the Medway City Estate, which last week was confirmed as costing an extra £353,000.

The project has been held up by delays to re-routing utility services and the initial completion date of February is now set for spring, according to the council.
