Two men arrested after reports man was brandishing gun in Maidstone Road, Rochester, have been released from custody

Two men who were arrested after reports of someone brandishing a gun in Rochester on Saturday night have been released from custody.

The pair, who have not been named, were arrested by armed police in Maidstone Road, near East Row, at about 7.40pm after officers received reports of a sighting of a firearm.

Armed police visited two homes in the Strood area and as a result two men, one aged 23, the other 24, were arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm.

Police said no gun had been found.

A spokesman added: “Kent Police was called at 7.41pm following a reported sighting of a firearm in Maidstone Road, Rochester.

“Armed officers attended the scene and also visited two separate addresses in the local area as part of their inquiries.

“Two men aged 23 and 24 were arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm and remain in custody.”

However, this morning officers said one man had been released without charge and the other, the 24-year-old, has been bailed until August 25.

He is suspected of criminal damage.
