Warning in place from Kent County Council Highways for Walderslade Woods after Storm Erik weather warnings and snow damage last week

A warning from Kent County Council has been put in place for Walderslade Woods this weekend following devastating snow last week which caused around 200 trees to collapse.

With Storm Erik due to bring winds of up to 60 mph this evening, KCC have issued a localised warning to Walderslade Woods (A2045 and A229) for the risk of further damaged to the trees in the area.

In a statement, KCC Highways said, "With the forecast high winds over the weekend we are continuing to inspect both these areas and raising any necessary works to prevent further trees falling as a result of this.

"It is possible that further trees may be damaged or fall as a result of the forecast high winds so please be aware of this, remain safe and report any issues. Our Emergency Tree Contractors are on standby and prepared for this type of event."

Trees crashed to the ground and cars were left stranded after heavy snow fall last Friday, February 1 leaving many drivers unable to get their vehicles home.

People were trapped in their cars as the branches toppled on to their windscreen and the long trunks blocked the carriageway.

Walderslade Woods Road, in Walderslade, and neighbouring Robin Hood Lane and Boxley Road were closed on Saturday.

Tree surgeons worked hard to clear around 200 trees that were piling up across the road.
