Easter holiday ideas for children in Medway

Already running out of ideas for things to do with the kids during the Easter holidays? There is plenty going on across the Towns to keep them busy!

Castles

Youngsters can find out more about Medway’s history with heritage trails at Rochester and Upnor castles. They run until Monday, April 17 and cost 80p per child.

Children can also make their own helmets at Rochester Castle Tower Two craft workshops on Tuesday, April 11, and Thursday, April 13, 10.30am-3.30pm.

At Upnor Castle they can make an Easter hat for one of the castle’s barrack block officers or soldiers during hands-on craft sessions on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays until April 17, 10.30am-3.30pm. All workshops are 80p per child.

Country Parks

Children’s workshops are also being held at Medway’s country park. Get to know which bird sings what songs at Riverside Country Park today (Thursday), from 9am-11am.
Children can create their own egg at Capstone Farm Country Park, today, from 10am-noon.

Shopping Centres

Youngsters will be able to make colourful butterflies at the centre on Thursday, April 13. Search the Pentagon Shopping Centre on Facebook.

Free Makendooarts and crafts workshops continue at Hempstead Valley Shopping Centre until Sunday, April 9. Balloon modelling and puppetry workshops will also be held on Wednesday and Thursday next week. These activities will be held outside Wallis from 11am-1pm and 2pm-4pm.

Garden Centres

Little ones can make a date with the Easter bunny at Wyevale Garden Centre in Gillingham. Until Sunday, April 23, children can have breakfast or tea for £9.99 per child. This includes a cuddly toy gift, Easter cookie decorating workshop, a bunny hunt and a fun activity sheet. For information, or to book, visit wyevalegardencentres.co.uk

Easter egg hunts are being held in Dobbies Garden Centre, Courteney Road, Gillingham, until Easter Monday, April 17. Little ones will be challenged to find five brightly coloured eggs hidden around the store. Those who find all five eggs will receive a chocolate bunny treat.

Museums

Kids can go on a Bunny Hunt at Fort Amherst, Dock Road, Chatham, until Sunday, April 16. Find all 10 bunnies to receive sweets and a certificate. Costs £1. Just pop into the Fort’s cafe to pick up your form. The fort is also offering ghost, Second World War and Napoleonic themed tours until Friday, April 14. Visit fortamherst.com.

There’s also plenty for youngsters to do at Rochester’s Guildhall Museum, including an egg trail, until Monday, April 17, 10am-5pm. The cost is 80p per child. Children can also make their own weird and wonderful masks at the museum on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays until Friday, April 14, 10.30am-3.30pm.

Libraries

At Hempstead on Monday, April 10, 2.30pm-3.30pm there is a story and craft workshop for four to 10-year-olds. There are more spring sessions at Hoo on Tuesday, 2.15-2.45pm and Strood 2pm-3pm.

A baskets and bunnies craft workshop will be held at Walderslade Hook Meadow library on Wednesday, April 12, 2pm-3pm. Suitable for ages three to eight.

Youngsters aged five to 10 can find out about hot cross buns at craft sessions at libraries on Thursday, April 13 – at Rainham at 11.30am and Gillingham at 2pm.

Teenagers can get crafty at a workshop at Chatham library on the same day, 2.30pm-3.30pm. For 11 to 16-year-olds.

There are craft sessions for children aged three to eight at Lordswood library, 11am-11.45am and Luton 2.45pm-3.30pm and Walderslade 2.15pm-3.15pm.
