Aldi apologises to woman from Gillingham who found something 'gross' in her tin of beans

A mysterious, unidentifiable object has been found in the middle of a tin of beans.

Shade Amusa of Rainham was about to cook some pasta and started to pour in an unopened tin of beans.

To her disgust, the beans, which were from Aldi in Gillingham business park, were covered in something strange.

It was pinkish red on one side and dusty grey on the other.

Mrs Amusa said it was indescribable.

She said: "When I opened the can I was so distressed. I haven't touched it since, it was so gross.

"I couldn't even tell you what it felt like it was so weird.

"To be honest I just want them to make sure that their products are of a better quality. It's things like this that can be easily overlooked and end up causing health issues and causing people to get ill and it probably would not be linked to this as these types of foods are automatically trusted and assumed to be healthy.

"I personally eat about 6-8 cans of beans each week and I'm actually frightened now to think that I have to be so super conscious now.

"I switched to a plant-based diet in March and there has been so much improvement in my health and I've pretty much lost half of my body weight naturally so I'm an absolute advocate for healthy eating and exercise so things like this are very upsetting to me."

She says the can had never been opened before and the best before date was next year.

Aldi have said it is likely the object is mould.

An Aldi spokesperson said: “While incidents like this are rare, they can occasionally occur if packaging is damaged at any point before the product is consumed, as the contents may be exposed to air.

"We have apologised to Ms Amusa and have asked her to return the product for a full refund.”
