A woman has been taken to hospital with serious spinal injuries after a motorboat started "bouncing" in the water at high speed.

Sheerness RNLI spokesman Vic Booth says a lifeboat was sent to the scene off the Isle of Grain at 2.15pm today.

Two motorboats, carrying 10 people including children, were in the water opposite Thamesport when the incident happened.

The injured woman is said to have been hurt when her craft started jumping out of the water.

Fire and ambulance crews were also sent to help as was the HM Coastguard helicopter.

The casualty was hoisted from the motorboat, which was taken to Sheerness, and handed into the care of medics.

The second motorboat returned to Gillingham from where both crafts launched.

The lifeboat crew were at the scene for an hour and 15 minutes.
