Neighbours living in a quiet residential cul-de-sac have spoken of their shock after a man died.
A murder inquiry has been launched following the death of a man, thought to be in his 30s, at a house in Chatham.
Paramedics were called to the property in Westmount Avenue and he was taken to a London hospital where he died two days later.
A man and woman in their 30s from Chatham, a woman in her 40s and man in his 30s from Gravesend, were arrested in connection with the death.
Those arrested, all of whom have been released on bail pending further inquiries, and the dead man, are known to each other.
People living in the road near the town centre have expressed their horror of the incident which happened at about 8.15pm on Saturday, March 16.
Mum Ruby Bath, 53, said: “It’s horrible. I did have CCTV but it’s not working. I’m certainly going to get it fixed after this.
“I have lived here six years and nothing like this has ever happened before.”
Faraday Brincovenau, 53, a mother-of-four, did not know anything about the incident until a police officer knocked on her door the following morning.
She said: “I have lived here since 2000, but there have been a lot of changes in the road with older people moving out because their children have grown up and Londoners buying up property.
“I tend to keep myself to myself and really only go out on the school run.
“This has always been a nice road. You don’t expect something shocking like this to happen here.”
Another resident, who did not wish to be named, said he was out at the time but came home to see an ambulance parked outside the house opposite.
He said: “The people who live there are nice. They let me park my car outside.”
The four arrested have been released on bail until Monday, April 8.
Detectives from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate are following up multiple lines of inquiry following the conclusion of a post-mortem examination last Monday.
Police have not revealed any details about how the man died only that he was “found injured”.
However, they have issued a public appeal for information and want to speak to anyone who is yet to contact them.
