Charlton Athletic and Millwall play Gillingham over the same weekend

Gillingham have lined up an action-packed weekend in mid-July.

They have announced a home match against Charlton Athletic on Saturday, July 20, a day before welcoming Millwall to ME7 for a friendly.

Gillingham are also officially opening the new pitch at Chatham Town on the Friday night (July 19), with a younger team taking on the Southern Counties East side on their newly installed 3G surface.

Boss Steve Evans has been reshaping the pre-season schedule since taking over and now has two Championship sides coming to town.

Charlton have just been promoted to the Championship following their play-off success against Sunderland. The game against them is scheduled for 2pm.

Millwall finished one place outside of the relegation places in the Championship. That's a 1pm kick-off.

Medway will be the place to be that weekend, with the Medway Mile taking place on the Friday night of the Chatham game and the National Circuit Championship coming to Rochester on the Sunday, the same day as the Millwall fixture.

Evans has also agreed to play League 1 rivals Southend United at Priestfield in a friendly, with that match planned for Friday, July 26 (7pm).

There are also games against Kent sides. Gills' game against Faversham Town has been moved from Tuesday, July 9 to Saturday, July 6 with a 2pm kick off. They are also currently scheduled to play Folkestone Invicta (Saturday, July 13, 3pm), Dartford (Tuesday, July 16, 7.45pm) and Dover Athletic (Tuesday, July 23, 7.45pm).

The Gills have added another game to the list, taking on Welling United at Park View Road on Monday, July 29 (7.30pm).
