Athletics club leaps into higher league

MEDWAY & MAIDSTONE AC will be competing in the British Athletics League next season after a glorious victory in the play-off match at Watford.

The club's senior men performed beyond all expectations to win the match by overcoming league champions from the Midlands (Halesowen AC), the North of England (Derby AC) and Wales (Brecon AC), as well as four other leading English clubs.

As expected Swindon Harriers, relegated from the British League Division 4, provided the sternest opposition, but Medway & Maidstone eventually finished top of the pile by 38 points.

Team manager John Taylor said: “This must go down as one of the most memorable days for the new club.”
