William Box’s first season as a race driver ended in chaotic circumstances at a wet Brands Hatch.
Box, from Walderslade, claimed a first-place class finish in race one of the Fiesta ST150 Challenge but had to settle for a P2 in the second race and a fastest lap in wet conditions.
Qualifying had seen Box take seventh place, with only a tenth of a second covering cars from third to eighth, and he battled with the cars in front of him to claim a seventh-place finish overall and a class win.
Describing the second outing, Box said: “Race two was a very chaotic race to end the season, with a downpour halfway round causing multiple red flags and safety cars; an annoying race to finish in P10 [overall] when I was running P5 for the majority of the race.
“Although [it was] very fun to try wet conditions for the first time.”
Box was competing on track this year after being schooled on the UK’s highest spec race car simulators at SIM Motorsport, based at Brands.
“Overall [it’s been] a great season racing for Tensport Performance, there has definitely been more highs than lows with the excellent reliability of the car to thank [for],” he added.
“Thank you to everyone who has been a part of my journey, and all my family and friends for all the support. I hope to be on the grid next year!”
Box’s team are keen to hear from potential new sponsors as they look to build towards a second season on track.
