The big Frenchman has rarely featured for Gillingham and his hopes of seeing some action have been diminished with the return to fitness of former Manchester United youngster Matty Willock.

Boss Steve Evans said in his weekly press conference that Willock could even start in this weekend’s game against Oxford United.

Evans has also said he is in the market this month for another midfielder.

More on the Gills;

Cisse joined the Gills in the summer after helping guide MK Dons to promotion from League 2.

At the time of his signing, Evans said: “We’ve added a key ingredient to the team that was missing last season, defensive power in such a key area.”

But the move hasn’t gone to plan. Cisse started Gills’ first two games of the season, scoring in a 2-1 defeat to Burton Albion, but hasn’t played in the league since.

His only other three senior appearances came in the EFL Trophy competition.

Evans said: "With first team chances limited we felt it was best that he went out to get some regular game time. I'm sure he will do very well.

“He was exceptional at MK Dons last season when they got promoted from League 2."

The Gills boss added: "He's a great kid whom Orient fans will take to in a big way with his performances."

Orient head coach Ross Embleton said: "He hasn’t played the amount of football this season that he would have liked, but that’s often what happens with the signings that you make in January.

"It’s great that we can give him an opportunity and a platform to come in and perform."

*The Gills, meanwhile, have moved their midweek home league game against Shrewsbury Town to Wednesday, January 29 (7.45pm).

Gillingham have agreed to move the game 24 hours as the Shrews are up against Liverpool in the FA Cup on the Sunday before. The Gills are away to Rochdale that same weekend.
