A gymnastics volunteer from Rochester has been singled out for national recognition for ensuring everyone has equal access to the sport.
The Meapa’s Lydia Ings has been nominated for volunteer-of-the-year at the British Gymnastics Awards, largely due to her tireless service in creating a welcoming and inspiring environment for gymnasts of all ages and abilities.
The club, with a venue at Medway Valley Park in Rochester and Cedar Avenue, Gravesend, are also up for community club-of-the-year for those with more than 250 members.
Ings says her work is inspired by a pure love of the sport more than awards and acclaim.
“I feel very honoured to have been shortlisted for this award,” she said.
“Being able to support our gym club is a privilege and something that I have learnt from as much as the time I have given.”
The British Gymnastics Awards have seen a record-breaking number of nominations this year, focusing on those who have demonstrated a commitment to delivering an uplifting gymnastics experience for all and living the inclusive, aspirational and supportive values of the sport.
British Gymnastics want to shine a spotlight on exceptional people and organisations that help keep gym nastics enjoyable, safe and open to everyone. Winners will be revealed from January 27.
Sarah Powell, British Gymnastics CEO, said: “This year, we are thrilled to announce a record-breaking number of nominations for the British Gymnastics Awards, a testament to the extraordinary individuals and organisations that make our sport so special.
