Invicta Dynamos host Romford Buccaneers on Saturday before an away game against Chelmsford Chieftains – Head coach Karl Lennon previews the weekend games

Invicta Dynamos enter the final month of the regular season before the play-offs begin.

An on-off fixture schedule since the start of the year hasn’t been ideal but March sees the Mos ramp up the game-time ahead of the play-offs with six games over the next three weeks.

The Romford Buccaneers head to Gillingham this Saturday before the Mos travel to face the Chelmsford Chieftains on Sunday, looking to halt their losing form against the Essex outfit.

Head coach Karl Lennon said: “It will be nice to have that continuity which we’ve not had in the last month.

“I think the guys are quite excited about that final push. We’ll have those six games, then a weekend off at the end of March, which gives us a couple of days extra to prepare for the play-offs the week following.”

The Mos have won their last five games but Lennon knows tougher challengers await.

Their final six games see them taking on a real mix in quality.

“The split is quite even,” he said. “We play three sides above us, three sides below us at this moment in time to close the season out.

“It’s a nice balance of games where some you’re expected to win and others are unexpected. We want to give the best account of ourselves in those matches.

“I like the way it’s split and I think that’s a good preparation for us going into the play-offs. That’s the primary focus, getting ourselves ready for that when it comes and I don’t see the positions changing too much before now and the end of the season.”

The Dynamos sit fifth in the 10-team division, too far away to challenge the leading sides. Just below them are Saturday’s visitors Romford.

Lennon’s men beat Romford 11-4 early in the season but then lost the next two against them. They’ll want to win on Saturday to keep their spot in the table.

Lennon said: “It could be a deciding fixture in terms of who is placed where. We still have a gap on them so even if we didn’t pick up points on Saturday, we’d still be ahead, but they would have had less games played so the power would be in their hands.

“We want to keep it in our own hands and be focused on picking up the three points on Saturday.”

Chelmsford have won all three of the previous league games between the teams this season and will be out to claim a 100 per cent record over their old rivals on Sunday.

Lennon’s seen his side enjoy success against the other top teams in the division and knows there will be a psychological benefit to claiming some success in Essex this weekend.

Looking towards that game, he said: “Frustratingly, we’ve played two games at home against them and we’ve been leading in both of those games and then in the third period, we’ve fallen off and they’ve picked up and got results.

“We’re not the only team that they’ve managed to do that against and an example of that was last weekend.

“They played their Cup final and won against Solent but on both nights, they were behind to start and then pulled it back at the end.

“You have to be strong and make sure that you keep hold of what you’ve got (against them). They’re extremely resilient and they don’t give up. They fight back and they make sure that they’re in every game.

“Credit to them and congratulations to them that they managed to get that cup on Sunday because there were spells in that fixture where they looked like they were going to struggle and they did. They managed to claw through in the end.

“I’m a firm believer in muscle memory. If we’ve not beaten them this year at all, then how do we expect to beat a team like that in the play-offs?

“We’ve got one last opportunity against them to try and get a result and that would then put us in a completely different mindset going into the play-off run.

“We’ve taken points off Streatham and we’ve done the same thing with Slough and with Solent.

“Chelmsford are the only ones we haven’t managed to do that against this year so it’s important that we manage to get something from there.”
