Invicta Dynamos legend and all-time top points scorer Andy Smith returns from retirement for 2025/26 Season

Club legend Andy Smith has come out of retirement to play another season for the Invicta Dynamos.

The team’s all-time leading points scorer will take to the ice for the Mos once again in the 2025/26 season.

Smith ended a phenomenal 11 seasons with the Mos at the end of a stunning 2014/15 campaign, which had seen him claim 94 points with 45 goals and 49 assists, in a year where he surpassed the 1000-point mark.

During his time with the Mos he helped them to 12 trophy wins, including a memorable 2005/06 season where the team claimed four major titles.

He’ll be looking to add more points to his tally, which currently stands at 1,039, with 528 goals and 511 assists in 426 games.

Smith, 40, hooked up with the team towards the end of last season and instantly got the buzz back.

He told the club: “I reached out to (head coach) Karl Lennon towards the end of last season and followed the team during practices and games.

“I could see immediately the positive environment, and it only confirmed the urge I had deep inside me to come back.

“As soon as I touched the ice, I knew I wanted back in. I’m so excited to get going and can’t wait for the first games in September.”

Lennon said: “Smithy and I have been friends since childhood, and I had the fortune of sharing the ice with him for most of my playing career.

“Without question, he’s the player who has had the biggest impact on this club — his numbers prove that.

“When he came to me and shared his interest in playing again, my response was simple — ‘of course.’

“Andy will bring so much to this team: his undeniable quality, relentless work rate and above all his leadership.

“He has always had the ability to lift the players around him, and after watching him in practices and a couple of late-season games, you could sense he was eager to be back. I’m over the moon that he’s returning—back where he belongs.”

Smith played a couple of games for the Mustangs in 2018/19 but hasn’t iced since. He will once again wear the no.26 jersey for next season.

Lennon has been busy putting his roster together for another season in the National League South Division 1.

Last season Aaron Connolly returned to the club, picking up the supporters’ player-of-the-year award, and the captain has signed up for another year.

Connolly was battling against injury for much of the campaign but managed to remain a key man in the squad, whether he was playing, or not.

Lennon said: “He’s an out and out leader that is dependable both on and off the ice.

“His performances last season were exceptional, especially considering that he played with injury throughout most of it.

“He’s an honest hockey player that plays the game at both ends of the ice and never takes a shift off. I think in a second season with us, we will see even more from him.”

Netminder Brad Windebank - the 24/25 coaches’ player-of-the-year - will return between the pipes and hopes for a better season ahead for the team, in what will be his second with the Mos.

He said: “After underperforming last season as a team, I’m eager to contribute to turn this season into a much better one and give the fans what they deserve.”

The club recently confirmed that forward Tom Soar would be leaving after three seasons with the club, having played 103 games for the Mos, with 90 goals and 69 assists.
