Jack Evans has found a new club as he begins life after his successful spell at Chatham Town.
Midfielder Evans, 32, has linked up with Isthmian Premier play-off semi-finalists Billericay after making close to 200 appearances and scoring 100 goals for Chats where he was captain.
“Admired Jack from afar,” Billericay boss Gary McCann wrote on social media on Tuesday. “Overly-pleased to be working with him.
“[He] will compliment a strong squad.”
Evans said: “Looking forward to next season.”
The former Gillingham professional, who rose through the ranks at Priestfield before playing a handful of games, has turned out for Sutton United, Eastbourne and Maidstone.
He spent a season at Folkestone before he moved to Chatham in 2019, scoring 20 goals in his debut season, which was cut short due to Covid.
Evans was a vital player as Chats enjoyed back-to-back promotions, finishing runners-up in the Southern Counties East League Premier Division, before he helped them to Isthmian South East glory.
He swept the board in their 2022/23 season awards, winning the Golden Boot with 26 goals, picking up the supporters’ player-of-the-season award and also being named Isthmian South East’s player-of-the-season.
As captain, he came close to another promotion, with Chats just missing out in the Isthmian Premier play-offs in the 2023/24 season.
They went down 3-0 at home to Enfield in the Isthmian Premier play-off final in May 2024, having claimed the Velocity Cup a month earlier as they beat Hashtag United 2-1 at Aveley.
This past campaign, the club were off the pace. They came on strong late in the campaign but missed out on the play-off positions.
He confirmed his Chats exit on social media last month, saying it was “time for a new challenge” and that “it has been an honour to captain this club and to lead the players” over the past seasons.
Among his new team-mates at New Lodge will be winger Troy Howard, who has joined the Essex outfit from 2024/25 Isthmian South East runners-up and FA Trophy quarter-finalists Sittingbourne.
It means Evans will face his former club and make an emotional Bauvill Stadium return during the 2025/26 season.
