Premier League 2 second division leading scorer Tom Dickson-Peters joins Gillingham on loan from Norwich City

Gillingham have signed a striker from Premier League side Norwich City with an eye for goal.

Nineteen-year-old frontman Tom Dickson-Peters has signed on loan for the remainder of the season. He’s already got 18 goals for Norwich’s development side this season - the leading scorer in the second division of the Professional under-23 Development League

Gills boss Steve Evans has been hunting extra firepower and has moved quickly to add to his options following the opening of the January transfer window.

Dickson-Peters takes the number nine shirt and could make his Gillingham debut against Ipswich Town on Saturday.

Norwich say the youngster - who has represented Scotland at under-19 level - is "a clinical striker (who) has performed well for both the under-18s and the under-23s during his time with Norwich City Academy."

The player, describing himself, said: "I think I’m quite an athletic striker, I like to score goals. I like to come in and move positions sometimes as well, but recently I’ve just been running in behind and it’s given me a lot of success.”

He's scored 13 goals and claimed six assists in 15 PL2 appearances this season. That form has led to him being named on the bench four times for the first-team during last season’s Championship winning campaign. He was also in the squad for December’s Premier League game against Aston Villa.

Boss Steve Evans met the player on Monday, ahead of a number of other clubs apparently interested in his signature.

He’s the second Norwich player to join on loan as Dan Adshead is already on the books.

Evans said: “It obviously helps Norwich City favour us as his destination when you consider the development that the likes of Chris Wood, Jack Marriott and Ivan Toney made working with Paul and myself.

“I have watched his progress since the start of the season and it’s an exciting journey he is on.

“He comes here with no pressure other than he needs to continue to work hard at developing his game.

“He is a lovely kid who wants to continue scoring goals and we will do everything to help him.”
