Chatham Town are on a roll and the last thing they wanted was a weekend off.
Kevin Hake’s side put seven past Bognor Regis last weekend and five without reply against Whitehawk the week before but are having to sit it out this Saturday.
Scheduled opponents Hashtag United are in FA Trophy action, which takes priority over league commitments. It means Hake’s men will have to wait until Tuesday night for another match.
Chatham – now nine unbeaten in the league - lost at Bognor last season in the league and bettering that result was a big deal for the manager - and the seven goals were an added bonus.
Hake said: “The lads performed really well to come with a 7-1 win.
“We knew from last year what a difficult place it is to go, despite the scoreline.
“It extends the unbeaten run and, more importantly, bettered the result we got there last year.
“We have done that against Horsham and Wingate recently which shows that things are moving in the right direction.
“Unfortunately our game against Hashtag on Saturday has been rearranged for January 7 due to them still being in the Trophy, which is a shame for us, as the games can’t come quick enough at the moment.
“However,we travel to Cheshunt on Tuesday so it will mean we go there fresh after the short break.”
Isthmian Premier Division table
Chatham were 6-0 ahead at the break against Bognor in last week’s Isthmian Premier Division fixture.
Reece Butler hit the roof of the net from the edge of the box to open the scoring after 11 minutes at Nyewood Lane.
John Ufuah was played in behind and he finished well for 2-0 before adding a third for Chatham, both of his goals coming in a seven-minute spell.
Jack Evans guided in a free-kick for 4-0 and the captain scored his second of the game in between a Freddie Sears’ effort.
Sears bagged Chatham’s seventh goal on 64 minutes before the home side got themselves a consolation.
Chatham are away at Cheshunt this Tuesday before a big home derby against Folkestone Invicta next Saturday (December 14).
Hake said: “The Christmas period sees a move into another even busier period and we have just had our fourth round Isthmian Cup game against Burgess Hill scheduled at home on December 17. This is what football is about.
“We know it can change in a heartbeat but we have everyone back in full training now which means we can at least go into this period injury free.”
