Gillingham Women play Dulwich Hamlet in the FA Women’s Cup this Sunday a week after beating Ebbsfleet United in the Kent Cup

Gillingham Women head into their Second Round match of the FA Cup buoyed by a Kent Cup victory over lower-league Ebbsfleet.

Goals from Breon Grant and Kalani Peart sealed a 2-1 win over tier-five Fleet Women and booked a place in the county cup semi-finals. It was a well-earned win according to manager Josh Oatham, but with chances created they might have made it more comfortable.

Grant scored early in the second half, only for Fleet to level. Peart’s goal a minute from time won it.

Oatham said: “It was a dominant performance, we created some good chances. First half we had many good moments to try and get ourselves more than a goal lead but it’s the final pass or the final shot, it’s just either rushed or a little bit of wrong decision making. We are aware of that.

“The forwards feel like there is pressure on their shoulders where they want to score more goals and we create lots of chances.

“I would like us to score more. All the time it is 1-0 you risk the chance of conceding something, a corner was always going to be the way of them getting back into the game and they took that, fair play to them. What I was pleased with (was) we got the ball back on the centre spot, continued to play and worked the openings to get the winner.

“I was glad we won but these games throw things up, these teams a couple of divisions below us look at the fixture and want to make it a good game.

“Teams put players behind the ball and we have to break them down. It’s fair play to them, they stayed in the game, they did what they needed to do, that’s fine, I would do the same if it was the other way around.

“We have to find ways to win games, we did that last week and did it this week.”

For the third weekend running Gillingham are up against a London & South East Regional Premier Division side.

They travel to Dulwich Hamlet in the FA Women’s Cup this Sunday. It’s the furthest the London side have been in the competition and the match takes place at Champion Hill (kick-off 2pm).

Dulwich got the better of Aylesford Ladies to reach Round Two while their league rivals Millwall Lionesses - who top the regional Premier Division table - were beaten on penalties by Gillingham.
