Gillingham boss Gareth Ainsworth has admitted their impressive start to the season could hinder their hopes of making a deadline-day signing.
The Gills sit top of League 2 with four wins and two draws from their first six games but Ainsworth is still keen to add to his squad.
It’s attractive for any player to move to Priestfield with the club top of the table, although with his players already performing to a high level any incomers will have to break into the starting XI.
Asked if Gillingham’s unbeaten start makes it easier to attract the players he wants, Ainsworth responded: “I'll tell you on Monday.
“Yes, it's good. But it also says that maybe we don't need to make any wholesale changes. We've got a good group.
“Obviously, it's tough because when you sign players, they want to come to play, but nobody's done anything wrong who's played now to be out of the side.
“So, it's a balancing act. I think we need one more, numbers-wise, just to make sure that I'm covered in all areas and that's what I want to do.
“They will hopefully look at the league and go, ‘Gillingham look like they're doing okay and it looks like a good place to be right now’. So, hopefully we can get some over the line. But if we don't, I'm really happy with what we've got.”
Ainsworth is pleased with the quality of youth team players coming through but he knows senior experience is key in League 2 to balance the squad.
Clubs have until 7pm on Monday to make any permanent transfers.
“Dipping into the youth team is great,” added the Gills boss. “It's great for Joe Dunne, who does a fantastic job with those boys. It's also great for Gillingham as a whole, with Sam Gale, Joe Gbode, Cruz Beszant, Stan Sargent came on in the Cup game.
“We are generating these boys coming through, but I still need some quality players above them to make sure we're competitive in games and we're not out of games.
“Seven o'clock on Monday will be a nice time because we'll know exactly what we are, what we've got.

“We don't need loads. I'm really happy with what I've got. These boys are giving me everything and they're finding their way.
“Maybe we could add one more to it. It'd be great but, if not, then we are what we are.
“When the window closes, that's some of my best moments as a football manager, but I'm still trying to get one player in and that's big for me.”
