Jordan Graham is finding early form for Gillingham and used Lewis Hamilton's fitness trainer to get in peak condition

Gillingham’s weekend hero Jordan Graham could be a goal-machine says manager Steve Evans after getting himself in top condition.

Graham struck in stoppage-time to clinch a point for Gillingham at Shrewsbury and it’s four goals now in all competitions for the former Wolves winger.

It’s as many goals as the 25-year-old has previously scored throughout his career so far, albeit with limited appearance time, and Evans believes he’s capable of being a regular on the scoresheet this season.

Evans said: “Jordan is so naturally talented and what you have to do is get Jordan to work hard. When you get him working hard he is such a natural talent.

“He is probably the leading scorer in the league at the moment and if he is not he will be very close to it.

“When we got promoted with Rotherham we had a boy Kieran Agard. People thought he was a striker but I played him where Jordan plays and he got 26 goals. Jordan Graham could do that but he has to work as hard as Kieron did.”

In a game of few clear-cut chances, Graham’s equaliser was top quality.

Evans said: “Sometimes you get the break of the ball but to have the composure to turn and side step the defender and come back on his left foot and bend it into the corner, it was just a sublime finish.”

While Evans admitted Graham wasn’t on top form, he still brings plenty to the party. And he revealed the summer training regime that has enable the player to be in peak condition this season.

He said: “I don’t think it was Jordan Graham’s best of days. The surface didn’t help him and I don’t think our fluidity did either, but the one thing you get with him is that he is a warrior, he is in the trenches like the rest of us. He is young and hungry.

“Why were we so dominant in the last 30 minutes? It is because the players are so young, they are full or energy.

“Jordan has got himself in real good shape, he was in Monaco with Lewis Hamilton’s fitness instructor in the summer. He funded that himself, and that wouldn’t have been cheap, to get himself really fit and that is wonderful to see.”
