The FA publish clubs' annual spending on intermediary and agents' fees

Gillingham were the third lowest spenders on intermediary and agents’ fees in League 1 last year.

The Gills handed over £28,088 on fees between February 1, 2018 and January 31, 2019. The figures are published by the Football Association on an annual basis, as required under FIFA regulations.

Only Wycombe Wanderers (£19,500) and Accrington Stanley (£4,815) paid less during their transfer dealings.

In contrast, Sunderland shelled out £2.87m on fees as they look for an immediate return to the Championship.

That amount dwarfed the rest of the teams’ spending, accounting for approximately half of the total amount in the division, which totalled £5,559,679.

Sunderland’s spending even eclipsed many in the Championship. Among top payers in the division were Swansea and West Brom, who both spent over £5m, but Stoke handed out over in excess of £7m in fees.

The Premier League clubs paid agents and intermediaries £260m, with Liverpool exceeding the rest, with £43.8 being spent.

There were seven transactions involving agents and Gillingham, those being Bradley Garmston (Simon Bayliff/ARETE), Callum Reilly (Daniel Fletcher), Barry Fuller (Dean Baker/WMG Management), Elliott List (Dominic Laughton/Podia Sports), Josh Rees (Richard Ward/Exceed Sports Management) and Dean Parrett (Paolo Vernazza/Platinum One Sports Management) who was included twice.

Gills’ fees are up from £17,030 the previous year.
