Lordswood move top of Kent Cricket League Premier Division through five-wicket home win over Tunbridge Wells; All other matches fall victim to weather

Lordswood made the most of a rain-affected weekend as they beat Tunbridge Wells at home by five wickets to move top of the Kent League Premier Division on Saturday.

Will Stickler (25) led the way in the visitors’ 101 all out while Abdullah Nazir returned 4-20.

Aristides Karvelas and Danru Ferns claimed 2-29 and 2-39, respectively, but Ed Taylor’s unbeaten 24 off 13 balls - which included three maximums - saw them home.

The elements prevented Bexley’s chances of a home win against Sandwich Town.

Ken McClure (53) guided them to 210-7 from 50 overs despite wickets for Jan Gray (2-29), Rory Smith (2-38) and Ben Smith (2-62).

In response, Sandwich were 72-2 in the 17th over, with Rory Smith 29 not out, when rained stopped play.

It was a similar story at Blackheath where Minster were on top against the home team.

Minster lost two wickets in as many balls to slip to 34-3, with South African Jason Van Dyk unable to dig out a yorker from former Kent bowler Arafat Bhuiyan (3-23) on 11.

After a 10-minute rain delay, Minster resumed their innings but, almost immediately, Jaahid Ali middled a clip off his legs from Bhuiyan straight to Charlie Speller at mid-wicket.

Skipper Kai Appleby led the recovery alongside Aron Nijjar, who survived a difficult, swirling chance offered to mid-on.

After Appleby departed for 17, James Speer helped nudge Minster towards 150 alongside Nijjar, who was last man out for a well-compiled 54. Jahid Ahmed (3-29) also claimed scalps for Blackheath.

Chasing 151 to win, Blackheath lost Jahid Ahmed for a quickfire 12 as the rain clouds started to close in.

Tejpal Birdi blasted seven fours and a maximum in his 40 off 21 balls before the introduction of Noah McLennan (2-13) and Bill Prideaux (2-11) checked Blackheath’s progress.

The hosts reached 73-5 in the 14th over when the rain finally set in.

Hayes’ home fixture with second-placed Bromley also couldn’t be played to a conclusion.

Rory Low’s unbeaten run-a-ball 80, supported by wicketkeeper Liam Buttery (44), steered them to 252-8 as Krishen Daniel (2-41) and Zac Philipson (2-50) bowled well for Bromley.

They found themselves 5-1 from two overs when rain stopped play.

St Lawrence & Highland Court’s trip to basement boys Holmesdale ended 10 points apiece.

Dan Stickels top scored with 90 in the away team’s 251-9 from 50 overs, supported by John Grewar (39 not out), with William Harby returning 5-54 from his 10 overs.
