Stevenage pay an undisclosed fee for Gillingham forward Elliott List

Elliott List has quit Gillingham in a move to try and play regular football.

The pacey forward, who made just over 100 appearances for the Gills, has joined League 2 Stevenage for an undisclosed fee.

Gills boss Steve Evans is hoping the money received will help in his continuing efforts to reshape the squad.

Evans, speaking to the club’s website, said: “As a manager at Gillingham in League 1 the budget must always be balanced and the transfer fee obviously greatly helps that.

“We both felt a move was appropriate to satisfy his desire to play regularly and the lad had a few options but has chosen to play ultimately for a good football club in Stevenage and a very respected chairman in Phil Wallace.”

The 22-year-old joined the Gills as a youngster from Crystal Palace and has scored 10 goals for the club.

He hasn’t been able to command a regular starting role at the Gills under Evans, however. He’s made four appearances this season, starting once.
