Gillingham boss Steve Lovell delighted with forward Elliott List's response after dressing-down

Manager Steve Lovell was thrilled at the way Gillingham forward Elliott List responded to a few home truths.

The Gills boss got tough in the week before the Bradford match on Saturday, sending some players home from training – and List got a rocket too.

He responded with a super performance off the bench, scoring one goal, assisting another and creating several more chances for leading scorer Tom Eaves.

Lovell admitted the player “got a rollocking” in the week and said: “You tell players the truth and you try and put your experience into them.

"I said before the game to Patto (Mark Patterson, assistant manager) that Elliott would do something, that he would make a massive impact on the game, after the talk we had with him. I knew Elliott would perform like that.

“He was unplayable when he came on.”

List scored Gillingham’s third goal, running at the visiting defence before firing past keeper Richard O’Donnell. It was his fourth goal for the club in more than 50 appearances, although the vast majority have been off the bench.

Lovell said: “Someone with pace like that and with what he can do, he can go as high as he wants to go.

“He has got to believe in himself a lot more and do what he did (on Saturday) because that is Elliott List. What I had in the last three of four weeks was not Elliott.”
