Chatham Town beaten 1-0 by Potters Bar Town return to Isthmian Premier Division action at home this Saturday against Hastings United

Chatham boss Kevin Hake knows they need to put together a run of results to get back in the chase for promotion.

Sunday’s 1-0 loss at Potters Bar left Chatham 12 points adrift of the play-off places in Isthmian Premier. Steve Cawley scored the only goal on 61 minutes.

Chats went 11 games without a defeat before Christmas - but inconsistency has hampered their hopes since then.

Hake’s side have lost three and won one since the turn of the year.

A home game against strugglers Hastings United this Saturday is a chance for them to once again get on a positive run of results and close in on the top five.

Hake said: “Sunday was a difficult one to take. Despite getting into some nice areas and creating some good chances, particularly in the first half an hour, the final ball or finish was not up to standard.

“It’s disappointing but we have an opportunity to start to put things right at home against Hastings on Saturday.

“We need to show a good reaction as overall it was a below-par performance and there have been a few too many of those for my liking this season.

“We’ve two sessions on the training ground to prepare in the right manner.

“To win a game at this level is not an easy feat and the way the league has gone anyone can beat anyone on their day.

“We now need to go on a run like we did through November and December to put ourselves back in the mix.”

Chatham are away to Hashtag United on Tuesday night (January 28) in the quarter-finals of the Velocity Cup.

The cup match is at Aveley FC’s Parkside ground - the venue which hosted last year’s final when Chats beat the Tags 2-1 in the final.
