Morecambe sign former Gillingham midfielder Ben Pringle

Released Gillingham midfielder Ben Pringle has found a new club.

The 31-year-old was made a free agent this summer after Gills boss Steve Evans decided against offering him a new deal. He has joined League 2 Morecambe.

Pringle had been a star player under Evans when the two were at Rotherham United but he was unable to recapture that form during his time at Gillingham.

He arrived at Priestfield several weeks into the 2019/20 campaign on a one-year contract, with the club holding an option to extend it to a second year.

Prior to his move south he had been training with Bolton Wanderers. Evans was hoping they could reproduce the good times together but Pringle only managed to start six of the 10 league games he featured in.

His last appearance for the Gills came in mid-February when he played most of the game in a 2-1 win over Doncaster Rovers.

Morecambe manager Derek Adams said: "We've signed Ben as a left-sided midfield player, he's vastly experienced and will give us creativity in the middle of the park.

"He's very good and comfortable on the ball, hopefully he can do well for us."
