Ade Yusuff scores twice for new side Cray Valley PM against former team Chatham Town

Cray Valley PM’s newly signed striker Ade Yusuff was on target against one of his former teams in a friendly match on Tuesday night.

Yusuff was facing former club Chatham, the Southern Counties East side back in action just days after a goal-fest against Medway neighbours Rochester United.

Yusuff, who had a prolific spell for Chats in the 2013/14 season which helped earn the striker a professional deal at Dagenham, was announced as a Cray Valley player on Sunday, along with midfielder Connor Dymond.

Dymond, who started his career with Crystal Palace, was recently released by Welling United and is understood to be taking up a player-coach role with the Millers.

Chatham took the lead in the match at the Bauvill Stadium through Chris Lawall, a summer signing from Southern Counties East rivals Tunbridge Wells.

Yusuff levelled it up and had the chance to net another from the penalty spot but was denied by Jordan Carey, who has previously played for the Millers.

He did net again, however, putting the visitors ahead just before the break after being set up by Francis Babalola.

Chatham made it 2-2 early in the second half with an own goal, with former Gillingham scholar George Sheminant close enough to claim it himself. The game ended two apiece.

Tuesday’s game at Chatham was played behind closed doors and the FA have written to all leagues and clubs to clarify spectator attendance at pre-season matches.

All clubs in the National League System (steps 1-6), which goes as far down as the Southern Counties East League, were previously told matches must be played without spectators, whether at their own ground or not.

The FA have said a number of games attracted supporters across the country, with over 100 in attendance at some games, a breach of the government policy on gatherings.

In response, the FA have extended their ban on fans watching friendlies to include Regional NLS Feeder League clubs (formerly step seven).

The SCEFL, addressing their own teams, said: “This effectively means that whether you are playing at home or away against any team, your games until further notice must be played behind closed doors.”
